Marrakech Desert Agafay 1 day

About 35km outside of Marrakech, the landscape slowly changes from urban to rural farmland until you reach the Agafay desert. Don’t be misled by its name, this is not a Saharan-style sandy desert; it is more of a barren, deserted plateau. Stretching for miles, this semi-lunar terrain is unforgiving in the summer months, but in the cooler seasons, it provides a breath-taking environment, one that is often overlooked by those wanting to shuttle between the Atlas Mountains and Marrakech.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the tranquility of the desert and the countryside with this day trip to Agafay Desert. You will be picked up from your accommodation at 9.00am and taken to the west of Marrakech. The route is shaded by lush vegetation, olive, and orange orchards and passes through the occasional village of Ait Imour from where we will go off-road and driving through a completely different scenery of stone desert, barren light brown plateaux, Bedouin village, Oasis then high hills with panoramic views on the High Atlas.

Please note that The Agafay desert is quite bland compared to the more popular Sahara desert experience at Erg Chebbi Sahara dunes or Erg Chigaga desert but you need a minimum of 3 days and 2 nights for that trip.
